ABEOKUTA: Following the outbreak of the pandemic Coronavirus otherwise known as COVID-19, the Ogun State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Hameed Abodunrin has ordered immediate deployment of personnel to strategic places in the state to help contain the epidemic.

According to a statement e-signed and made available to the media by the Command’s Spokesman, Dyke Ogbonnaya in Abeokuta on Thursday, March 26, 2020 stressed that, “Looking at the veracity of the scourge of this pandemic, it has become highly imperative to continuously sensitise the market women and traders on the need for personal hygiene.”

The statement added “The command is also evolving plans at visiting and sensitising owners and managers of hotels, guest houses and motels on safety precautions in this trying period to avoid the transfer of the virus in such an unexpected and massive volume. The owners of such facilities are to also be educated on the many ways of preventing the scourge thereby reducing all the forms of getting infected and staying healthy.”

“The Corps had also set plans in motion to safeguard large gatherings around these places to mitigate the transfer of this virus which is seriously moving from one location to another.

“These two places are also notable for large gatherings of people and by the pronouncements of the various state and federal governments; the Corps would dissuade people from flouting this directives by continuous education, sensitisation and enlightenment campaigns for the general populace.”

Ogbonaya further stated that the Corps had also concluded plans to place hand washing centres across core locations in the state and across all formations.

“These habitual and entrenched practices, if imbibed, would afford us, as a people, the ability to forestall and prevent other endemics that may crop up in due course,” he said.

This intervention will include sensitisation of market and store owners, hoteliers, guest houses and motels, film centres, parties, computer villages and eateries, cinemas, among others.

According to the Corps aside from ensuring that hand washing facilities are located at strategic places across the State, it would also be visiting market men and women to further educate and enlighten them on the ways of preventing this virus.
