ABEOKUTA: The Ogun State Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) has thrown its backing for the So Safe Corps, insisting that the corps should not be held responsible for the murder of a 400-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun state.
It would be recalled that the culprits, alleged to be operatives of the So Safe Corps were paraded on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the State Police Command’s Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Barley a day after the parade, there surfaced a contrary report that the paraded suspects were members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria ( VGN).
But, on Thursday, August, 29, 2019 the Vigilance Group, in statement denied the report, alleging that they were men of the So Safe Corps and not VGN.
StarTrend Int’l gathered that the PCRC, which comprises the Abeokuta Metro and Adatan Royal Area Command under the leadership of, Hon. Yomi Whyte and Hon. Akinlabi Taiwo described the integrity of the So Safe Corps as high ranking adding that nobody should put it in the mud.
The Chairman of Abeokuta Metro Area Command, Yomi Whyte while addressing journalists during a solidarity visit held at the So Safe Corps Secretariat, Abeokuta described the allegation as uncalled for, saying that the VGN boss needed to go to the press and apologise in other to balance the information.
His words; “I still want to believe that there’s need for this gentleman that put this lies in the public place to go to the press and make an apology for what he has done, because if he does not do that, he has not done well.
“I think we have to make him do this so that there will be a balanced information. I want to completely say that both the Area Commands are fully behind you. We will not do anything without a complimentary role from the So Safe Corps and we have been doing it together and we will continue to work together to ensure that we have a good and perfect relationship.”
Whyte also commended the So Safe Corps Commander for providing security network and solution to ensure safety of lives and properties in the state.
in his response, the So Safe Corps Commander, Mr Soji Ganzalo explained that it was very annoying that when the three suspects were paraded at the Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, none of the suspects were mentioned to be members of the So Safe Corps.
Ganzalo added that during the arrest and investigation there was nowhere it was mentioned or actually shown any of the accused are members of the So Safe Corps.
His words; “So, if we go to court for redress, it’s sure that VGN will pay severely for what they have done, and if they didn’t retract that statement, definitely they may likely charge for libel.”
