ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – World-famous boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, narrowly escaped death on Monday, December 29, 2025, after being involved in a serious road accident at Makun, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the crash occurred around 11am when the Lexus Jeep conveying Joshua, with registration number KRD 850 HN, rammed into a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated.
The incident happened just before Danco Filling Station, near the Sagamu Interchange, inward the Ibadan axis of the expressway.
Reports indicate that Joshua sustained only minor injuries, while two other occupants of the vehicle were confirmed dead at the scene.
The boxer was seated behind the driver when the collision occurred, alongside three other passengers in the Lexus SUV, which was moving in a two-vehicle convoy that included a Pajero SUV carrying his security team.
“It was a two-vehicle convoy. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him and two others in front.
“Unfortunately, the passenger beside the driver and another occupant died instantly, but Joshua survived with minor injuries”, an eyewitness was quoted as saying.
The witness added that passers-by immediately began rescue efforts and flagged down vehicles for assistance before officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived to take control of the situation.
While investigations continue, the fortunate survival of Anthony Joshua has been described as nothing short of miraculous, given the severity of the crash.
