AGA-OLOWO, EWEKORO LG, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA -The traditional ruler of Aga-Olowo, HRM Oba Kayode Adio Kusoro, Olowosokedile I, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, has revealed that Aga-Olowo was founded by hunters, a group that holds deep cultural significance in Yoruba history.
He emphasized that hunters are traditionally revered and share a spiritual bond with Ogun, the Yoruba god of iron – a connection that continues to shape the town’s cultural identity.
The monarch described the annual Ogun Aga Festival as the first and most prominent cultural celebration in Aga-Olowo.
The festival, he noted, honours Ogun and pays tribute to the town’s ancestral ties with hunting, valor, and craftsmanship.
In addition to the Ogun Aga Festival, the community also celebrates Odun Ogun, another major festival observed by all residents of Aga-Olowo.
During this celebration, sacrifices and worship are offered not only to Ogun but also to other revered deities such as Obatala, Yemoja, and Odo Aga-Olowo. Each of these deities, according to the monarch, holds a distinct place in the town’s spiritual and cultural life.
Oba Kusoro however expressed optimism that Dangote Cement will remain steadfast in prioritizing the development of its host communities, while upholding respect for their heritage, culture, and environmental wellbeing.
