Primate Ayodele Warns Against Politicizing Awujale Succession, Says Wasiu Ayinde’s Favour May Cause Crisis

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has cautioned that making popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM 1) the next Awujale of Ijebuland could trigger serious unrest in Ijebu-Ode and across Ogun State if the rightful royal lineage is not followed.

Speaking in a recent statement, Primate Ayodele declared, “Well, it might not be Wasiu Ayinde’s turn, but he’ll be the most favoured, and it will cause problems.”

He warned that any attempt by the government to interfere in the traditional selection process could lead to unnecessary crisis.

“If government pushes it and says it’s Wasiu, and they don’t give it to the right family, _wahala_ will come o. It will cause several crises and problems”, he cautioned.

The cleric expressed concern that the succession issue might be politicized instead of being handled with spiritual guidance, which he said was crucial for maintaining peace and order.

He therefore urged traditional leaders and political stakeholders to act wisely and avoid actions that could divide the community.

“Don’t let this next Awujale cause crisis in Ijebu-Ode or Ogun State. Don’t make it political – make it more spiritual than political”, he advised.

Primate Ayodele’s warning comes amid intensifying debates over who should ascend the revered Awujale throne following ongoing succession discussions.

He emphasized that peace, fairness, and adherence to tradition must guide the process to prevent disputes among royal families and preserve harmony within Ijebuland.

Primate Ayodele posited that only by seeking divine direction and fairness can leaders avert conflict and ensure a transition that honours both tradition and God’s will.

According to him, a peaceful succession would not only uphold the dignity of the throne but also bring blessings, rather than turmoil, to the Ijebu people.
