IDIROKO: The Ogun Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said that it has generated N1.131billion revenue for the month of May.
Michael Agbara, the Command’s Comptroller, made the disclosure on Tuesday June 11, 2019 while speaking to journalists at the Command’s Operational Headquarters in Idi-Iroko.
By this achievement, Agbara said, the Command exceeded its monthly target of N643.4million by N488.3million.
The Comptroller who disclosed the Command’s other achievement mentioned the seizures, including 38 units of vehicles, 7,030 bags of rice and 372 kegs of vegetable oil as other achievements within the period.
Other achievements he said were confiscation of 411 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)-petrol; 3 units of motorcycles; 5 sacks, 1,835 pairs of new and 264 pairs of used foot wears, all, through the command’s anti-smuggling activities.
Agbara added that he and his men had succeeded in suppressing smuggling activities in the state and pruned down the number of checkpoints along the Idi-Iroko international route.
He attributed the success recorded to enforcement of measures put in place in line with the Federal Government’s Policy on Agricultural Development.
His words “The seizure of over 7,000 bags of rice for the month of May, 2019 is the highest monthly seizures of rice made by the command during 2019 fiscal year. This was achieved due to strategic enforcement measures put in place in line with the Federal Government Policy on Agricultural Development in the area of boosting local rice production.”
“The command will continue to dialogue, engage, sensitize and educate the public on social and economic implications of smuggling and on the other hand, the statutory functions of enforcing compliance with strict adherence to rules of engagement will not be relinquished,” Agbara assured.
