PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU

Why FG Launches Forest Guard Unit

FCT, ABUJA, NIGERIA – In a decisive move to bolster national security and reclaim Nigeria’s forest reserves, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a specialized Forest Guard Unit, with immediate recruitment now underway.

The newly created unit is tasked with securing Nigeria’s 1,129 forests, many of which have been overtaken by terrorists, bandits, and criminal groups.

These forests, once vital natural reserves, have increasingly become dangerous enclaves threatening national security.

The Forest Guard Unit will be well-trained, fully armed, and strategically deployed across the country.

Their primary objective will be to flush out illegal occupants and restore security to these vast, often neglected territories.

This initiative is a joint effort between the Federal and State Governments, showcasing a unified front in tackling insecurity and restoring the integrity of Nigeria’s environment and public safety.

President Tinubu has directed the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Federal Ministry of Environment to take the lead in overseeing the full rollout and operations of the Forest Guard Unit.

Thousands of young Nigerians are expected to be recruited, providing not just employment but a chance to play an important role in national defense and environmental protection.

Reaffirming his administration’s tough stance on insecurity, President Tinubu vowed that no part of Nigeria will remain under criminal control.

“We will take back our forests, restore peace, and protect our people”, he declared.
