IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA – The death of Elder David Ogwu, a retired radio broadcaster with Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Station, has been described as a great loss to both the media industry and the Christian community.
Elder Ogwu who died on Saturday, May 3, 2025, after a brief illness was known as a devoted Christian, a steadfast pillar in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, and a passionate supporter of the Oyo Conference’s mission.
Throughout his life, Elder Ogwu made tireless contributions to the church, particularly through radio evangelism programmes and various church activities.
His efforts have left a lasting legacy that continues to resonate within the church and beyond.
Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Oke-Bola, and his colleagues at Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Station, expressed their shock and sorrow, saying, “Elder Ogwu’s death is a rude shock to us all, but we take comfort in knowing that nothing is hidden from God, and He knows best.
“We mourn his loss, but not as those without hope – for we look forward to that glorious resurrection morning when we shall meet again.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and pray that the Lord will grant them strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time.
“May the legacy of Elder David Ogwu continue to inspire us all in faithful service to God. Sleep on, beloved Elder David Ogwu.”
The funeral rites for Elder David Ogwu start on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 with Commendation Service at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Oke-Bola, Ibadan. Starting at 10:00 am.
Lying-in-State at his residence from 10:00 am takes place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, while Service of Songs follows same place by 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Departure of the body and family from Ibadan to Kogi State for the final burial ceremony in his hometown comes up on Friday, May 30, 2025.
