IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA – The Ibadan South East Local Government Traditional Council, led by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, paid condolence visits today to the families of two notable Ibadan sons, the late Dr. Victor Olunloyo and Chief Yekeen Adeojo.
The delegation’s visits followed their monthly council meeting and came in the wake of the recent passing of both statesmen – Dr. Victor Olunloyo, a former Governor of Oyo State, who died on Sunday, and Chief Yekeen Adeojo, a respected businessman and former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who passed away last Friday.
Until his death, Chief Adeojo held the chieftaincy title of Ekefa Olubadan and was an active member of the Ibadan South East Traditional Council.
At the Iyaganku residence of the late Chief Adeojo, Chief Lekan Alabi, the Maye Olubadan and spokesman for the council, paid glowing tribute to the late politician.
He praised Adeojo’s dedication, tact, and strength of character in various roles – ranging from his military service to his involvement in politics, aviation, business, and boardroom affairs.
Chief Alabi recalled Adeojo’s tenure as a Director at the Odu’a Group, noting that his contributions were well respected by his peers.
He emphasized that the family could take pride in his exemplary legacy.
In response, the deceased’s son, Sherrif Adeojo, who is also the Chairman of Ido Local Government, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Oba Ladoja and the council delegation for their support and prayers during this time.
The delegation also visited the Molete home of the late Dr. Victor Olunloyo. There, Chief Alabi described the renowned mathematician, engineer, and technocrat as an irreplaceable figure whose loss will be deeply felt.
He highlighted Olunloyo’s profound intellect and love for education, calling him one of the most versatile individuals of his generation.
“Beyond engineering and mathematics, he was deeply knowledgeable in music, literature, theology, and philosophy,” Chief Alabi noted, praying that more individuals like him emerge, not only in Ibadan but across the world.
Speaking on behalf of the Olunloyo family, the widow, Mrs. Ronke Olunloyo, expressed gratitude for the visit.
She acknowledged Oba Ladoja’s longstanding closeness to the late former governor and assured that once the family, in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, finalizes burial arrangements, the public will be duly informed.
