ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – It is deeply painful and tragic to witness how human lives were lost in such agony, with no immediate rescue efforts in sight.
The incident occurred just 2-3 kilometers away from the Ogun State government’s seat, yet no help was provided in time. Sadly, the accident claimed the lives of 16 individuals.
This tragic incident involving a commercial vehicle on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange Expressway near the Muhammadu Buhari Estate.
The vehicle in question, a white Mazda bus bearing the registration number KJA949YJ, was reportedly carrying a filled gas cylinder when it exploded, leading to a fire outbreak.
Yours Truly couldn’t hold back my tears seeing innocent people suffering and dying in such a cruel manner.
This event raises a critical question: should the government consider decentralizing the fire department, positioning it at strategic points across the state rather than just within the cities and towns?
Also, the government, which collects funds from road transport unions, must ensure these transporters are held accountable for overloading passengers and for the excessive fares being charged, which disregard human lives and safety.
The Nigerian government must prioritize the welfare of its citizens, placing their well-being above political ambitions fueled by the “carrots” attached to high positions.
The tragedy on the Abeokuta-Sagamu road on Tuesday , March 4, 2025 is incredibly painful.
May the souls of those who lost their lives rest in peace, and may their families find the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss.
