Yewa South Annual Cultural Day: A Platform for Education, Unity – YSLG Chairman Ogunsola (+photos)

The Executive Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Barrister (Hon.) Abraham Ogunsola, has emphasized that the Annual Cultural Day has evolved into a significant platform for cultural education and unity.

Ogunsola noted that the event plays a vital role in acquainting pupils with their heritage while fostering a sense of togetherness among students, teachers, and community members.

Speaking on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, during the 2025 Culture Day celebration, Ogunsola reiterated his administration’s dedication to providing quality education in Yewa South.

He expressed his vision of making the local government a model for others across the state.

As the Special Guest of Honour, Ogunsola was represented at the event by Comrade Abdul-Jabar Ayelagbe, Secretary of Yewa South Local Government.

The event was hosted by the Yewa South Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) at the Asade Agunloye Multipurpose Hall, Yewa Empire Field, Ilaro, Ogun State.

Ogunsola commended the LGEA for its unique efforts in bringing together pupils from across the 92 public primary schools in the local government to celebrate cultural heritage.

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the LGEA, Yewa South, Prince Rotimi Olaleye, highlighted the importance of uniting pupils from all 96 primary schools in the local government.

He stated that this initiative enables young learners to build lasting relationships while being sensitized on the need to preserve and promote cultural heritage for future generations.

Delivering a lecture titled “Promotion of Our Language and Culture,” the Iya Eto of Ilaro-Yewa, Chief (Mrs.) Omolara Akintade JP, stressed the critical role of language in societal development.

She asserted that any society that neglects its culture is bound to struggle with ignorance and underdevelopment.

Chief (Mrs.) Akintade urged all stakeholders to prioritize indigenous language and culture over foreign influences to preserve the rich heritage of Yewa South.

The occasion featured an array of cultural activities, including traditional dance, songs, and the presentation of Yoruba delicacies such as Ojojo and Apara.

Special cultural displays by Egungun and Gelede added to the colorful celebration, offering pupils and attendees a deeper appreciation of their heritage.

The event witnessed the presence of distinguished personalities, including the Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lateefat Ajayi, and the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Olaoluwa Olabimtan, both were represented at the ceremony.

Other notable attendees included the Onigbeji of Igbeji, Oba Sunday Adelakun; the Baale of Idi Isin, Chief Yinusa Babatunde; the Management Team of YLGEA; NUT Chairman, Yewa South; AOPHOSON Chairman, Yewa South and several dedicated teachers from the local government among a host of other dignitaries.
