ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, has urged the student beneficiaries of the 2024 Oronna-Ilaro Festival Scholarship to use the opportunity wisely and inspire more sponsors for the programme.
Speaking on Sunday, February 9, 2025, during the presentation of laptops and N100,000 cheques to fifteen JSS 3 students at his Private Palace in Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State, the monarch emphasized the importance of responsible utilization of the scholarship funds.
As part of the scholarship scheme, students in public schools will continue receiving N100,000 annually until graduation, while those in private schools received a one-time payment.
Oba Olugbenle, represented by Chief Segun Kehinde, the Aare Onimo-Ero of Ilaro-Yewa, praised Hon. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, for his generosity in donating the laptops and cheques.
The monarch, who also serves as Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, commended Tijani’s commitment to supporting indigent students across Nigeria.
Oba Olugbenle further extended his appreciation to all individuals and organizations that contributed to the success of the 2024 Oronna-Ilaro Festival through various sponsorships.
Leading other chiefs at the event, Chief Segun Kehinde, along with Chief (Mrs.) Adunni Onifade, the Otun Iya-Ewe of Ilaro-Yewa, and Elhadj (Otunba) Abu-Satar Idowu Hamed, the Otun Baaroyin of Ilaro-Yewa, prayed for divine blessings upon all donors.
Speaking on behalf of the teachers and parents of the beneficiaries, Mr. John Olaogun and Mrs. Mercy Adurogba expressed deep gratitude to Oba Olugbenle, the festival organizers, and Hon. Bosun Tijani for their generosity.
They also assured that they would monitor the students to ensure they make the best use of the scholarship and provided items.
The event was coordinated by Alhaji (Prince) Lamidi Ajani Elegbede, the Secretary of the Oronna-Ilaro Festival Planning Committee, in conjunction with Mr. Bankole, Vice Chairman of the committee, and other members, including Mr. Joda, Mrs. Odus, and Mrs. Oladoja.
In another development, 66 patients who participated in the free eye screening during the 2024 Oronna-Ilaro Festival Medical Outreach successfully underwent treatment and surgery at the Eye Foundation Hospital in Ijebu Mushin.
The surgeries, which covered cataract and pterygium procedures, were fully funded by the Oronna-Ilaro Festival Central Planning Committee (OIFCPC). The final batch of patients completed their procedures on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The Oronna-Ilaro Festival Central Planning Committee (OIFCPC) extended heartfelt appreciation to all supporters and sponsors who made this initiative possible.
A special recognition was given to H.E Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, the Ogun State Government; Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and his colleagues in the National Assembly; Sir Kensington Adebutu; Otunba Yemi Idowu; Hon. Minister Bosun Tijani; IGP Kayode Egbetokun; Dangote Cement Plc; Oluomo Ibrahim Egungbohun (IBD), as well as numerous clubs, associations, and families.
