OSOGBO, OSUN STATE, NIGERIA – Governor Ademola Adeleke has taken swift action to address the case of a young man sentenced to death by hanging in Osun State for stealing a fowl.
The Governor has directed an immediate investigation and steps toward granting a prerogative of mercy.
In a statement issued by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the State Governor, Governor Adeleke expressed his concern over the matter and called on the Attorney General to intervene.
“I have read about the case. I recognize the separation of powers in our democracy. In this particular case, I have directed the Commissioner for Justice to initiate processes to grant prerogative of mercy to the young man,” the Governor said.
Governor Adeleke reaffirmed Osun State’s commitment to justice and equity, emphasizing the need to protect the sanctity of life.
“Osun is a land of justice and equity. We must ensure fairness and protection of the sanctity of lives,” he stated.
The Governor assured the public that the matter has his direct attention and will be addressed promptly.
He emphasized that the response reflects the state government’s responsibility to uphold fairness and compassion in its judicial processes.
“A sense of urgency is also attached to our response to the matter as a responsible state government,” Governor Adeleke concluded.
