Bishop Adeniyi Advises On Living For A Purpose, Celebrates Chief Wesley Hassan Akinbode At 70 (+photos)

ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The Bishop of Yewa Diocese of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Rt. Rev’d Ayo Adeniyi, has emphasized the importance of living a purposeful life dedicated to the glory of God rather than the pursuit of material possessions.

Rt. Rev’d Adeniyi reminded everyone that God has created each individual with a unique purpose, urging them to align their lives with this divine intent.

Speaking at the 70th birthday thanksgiving service of Chief Wesley Hassan Iyanda Akinbode, on Friday, November 15, 2024, the Aare Bobagunwa of Ijounland, delivered a heartfelt message of faith and reflection.

Bishop Adeniyi described the journey to 70 years of age as one filled with challenges and triumphs. “Many have reached this milestone, while countless others have not been as fortunate,” he said.

He acknowledged that life’s path is fraught with struggles, particularly in Nigeria, but praised Chief Akinbode for his resilience and unwavering faith throughout his life.

The cleric reminded attendees that life is not solely about acquiring material wealth, but about living in service to God and humanity.

He congratulated Chief Akinbode for his steadfastness and contributions to the church and society.

Highlighting Chief Akinbode’s character, Rt. Rev’d Adeniyi described him as a devoted Christian, humble, and committed to the growth of Christendom.

He recounted their joint efforts to secure land for the church’s vicarage, recalling how the celebrant’s dedication to the church sometimes took him on unconventional paths.

Chief Akinbode and his wife were praised for their immense support of the Methodist Church in Ilaro and Igbogila. The Bishop asked the couple to continue their contributions, assuring them of God’s blessings.

In his own testimony, Chief Akinbode expressed profound gratitude to God for granting him 70 years of life.

Drawing inspiration from Psalm 116, Chief Akinbode shared his journey of overcoming challenges, stating, “The sorrows of death compassed me, and pains of hell got hold upon me; but God inclined His ear unto me.”

Chief Akinbode pledged to continue offering sacrifices of thanksgiving and dedicating his life to God’s will, acknowledging the divine mercy that has preserved him and his family.

Chief Wesley Hassan Iyanda Akinbode’s life is a testament to hard work, resilience, and faith. Born into a humble family in Kotoowo and Oke-Agbede, Igbogila, Ogun State, he began his educational journey at Methodist Primary School, Igbogila.

He advanced through Nazareth High School, Imeko, and went on to earn a National Certificate of Education (NCE) and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science/Economics from the University of Ilorin in 1983.

A dedicated educator, Chief Akinbode served in various schools before retiring as Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission in 2012.

Chief Akinbode, affectionately called “OSHA,” is renowned for his humility and community service. He has held numerous leadership positions, including Chairman of the Odo-Osun Alagba Community Development Council and Secretary of the Recreation Club, Ilaro. His contributions to religious, social, and educational causes have left an indelible mark.

The thanksgiving service, attended by dignitaries from far and near, was followed by a grand reception at the Recreation Club, Ilaro, Ogun State.

Guests celebrated a life well-lived, honouring a man whose faith, leadership, and service continue to inspire many.

Chief Akinbode, conferred with the chieftaincy title of Aare Bobagunwa of Ijounland in 2010, is happily married to Chief (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Adetutu Akinbode. Together, they are blessed with children and grandchildren, cementing a legacy of love, faith, and service.

The event marked a significant milestone in the life of a man – Chief Wesley Hassan Iyanda Akinbode whose faith, resilience, and service have left a lasting impact.
