Nigerian actress and prophetess Idowu Phillips, widely known as Mama Rainbow, recently opened up about a challenging time in her life when financial hardship pushed her to consider an unusual path.
In an interview with Daily Trust, she shared how, early in her career, she faced severe financial constraints, especially after her husband, Femi, passed away just a few years into their marriage, leaving her to raise their children alone.
Mama Rainbow recounted how one of her sons, who initially did not share her religious beliefs, suggested she become a witch to lift their family out of poverty.
“It was tough; after prayers, some of them would always cry,” she said, describing how her son’s frustration with their struggles led him to propose the idea. “He said he would take me to where I could become a witch, and I agreed. He said that once I became a witch, we would be okay.”
She explained that she reluctantly accompanied her son to the place he had mentioned. However, upon hearing the terms, she was stunned.
“They told me the requirement was to sacrifice the child I loved most,” she revealed, a condition that left her in disbelief. Mama Rainbow responded, telling the person, “It was the child I loved most that brought me to the place.”
At that moment, her son held her hand and decided it was time to leave, realizing the true cost of the decision they were about to make. This experience marked a pivotal moment for the actress, who went on to pursue a life rooted in faith, eventually becoming a prophetess.
Mama Rainbow’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the tough choices people sometimes face in desperate times and the importance of staying true to one’s values despite adversity.
