ABUJA, FCT, NIGERIA – Former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, has expressed concern over the growing scarcity of individuals with integrity in today’s society.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony of MIVA Open University in Abuja on Saturday, October 19, 2024, Osinbajo emphasized the importance of integrity, urging the students to understand that it pays to uphold honesty and moral principles.
He lamented the increasing difficulty in finding people of integrity across Nigeria, as many seem to be consumed by the fast pursuit of wealth.
Despite this, he pointed out that those with integrity are in high demand, even by those who have acquired wealth through illicit means.
“Even thieves are looking for men and women of integrity to keep their stolen money with,” Osinbajo remarked.
He further advised the students, “If you borrow money, you should pay it back. Don’t make promises you can’t fulfill. Integrity pays. It is getting scarcer. Life is a marathon, not a hundred-meter race.”
His speech underscored the value of long-term integrity over the rush for short-term gains, encouraging the next generation to prioritize trustworthiness and accountability.
