EBUTE-IGBOORO, YEWA NORTH LG, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – The serene town of Ebute-Igbooro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State was transformed into a gathering place for dignitaries and well-wishers on Saturday, September 28, 2024, as Alhaji (Chief) Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun paid tribute to his late uncle, Alhaji (Chief) Wahab Ayinla Egungbohun.

The event, which blended solemnity with celebration, was a grand burial ceremony that drew prominent figures from various sectors to honour the late Alhaji Wahab’s life and legacy, which left a lasting impact on the community.

Alhaji Ibrahim Dende, widely known as IBD, is a renowned businessman and the Chairman/Chief Executive of multiple successful enterprises, including IBD IMPEX Ltd, IBD International Hotels, and IBD Farms.

His uncle, the late Alhaji Wahab Egungbohun, fondly called Baba Ode, was a revered community figure and the father of Hon. Haruna Egungbohun, the representative of Yewa North State Constituency II at the Ogun State House of Assembly.

Guests were welcomed into an exquisitely decorated Mackie tent, a vibrant and elegant structure that reflected the grandeur of the event. The tent – colorful aesthetics, featuring beautifully arranged chairs and tables, added to the air of sophistication, creating an atmosphere that balanced solemn respect with celebration.

The setup was reminiscent of high-class gatherings, highlighting the respect and admiration the late Alhaji Wahab commanded in life and in death.

Dressed in a casual yet stylish white T-shirt, jeans, and white sandals, IBD personally welcomed guests with warmth and care. He ensured that the guests were treated to an abundance of sumptuous meals, personally moving from table to table to ensure everyone’s satisfaction.

His dedication to hospitality was evident as he took charge of serving his guests, a testament to his humility and desire to make the event memorable for all in attendance.

The event was graced by an impressive array of dignitaries, including traditional rulers and high-ranking political figures. The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Olugbenle MFR, led a delegation of royal fathers, along with members of the Olu Ilaro-in-Council, underscoring the importance of the event.

Others were Ogun West Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), representing Ogun West at the Upper Chamber; House of Representatives member – Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI); members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, led by their Speaker, Rt. Hon. Daisi Elemide, and his Deputy, Hon. (Chief) Mrs. Latifat Ajayi; Deputy Governor of Pobe RP, Hon. Fagbohun and Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan (Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning);

Also at the epoch event were Jagunmolu Omoniyi Akande (Ogun State Commissioner for Housing); Hon. Babatunde Olaotan (Ogun State Commissioner, Government House); Dr. Mukhail Akinde (Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro); Chief Olaegbe from Adja-Quere, Alhaji Rauf Bello; Comrade Mustapha Adekunle (Seego), Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW); Alhaji (Chief) Tajudeen Adisa (Yiyo) and Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Adewunmi (Alabama) among others.

The presence of these high-class dignitaries highlighted the respect held for both the deceased and IBD within the community and beyond.

Entertainment played a key role in the day’s festivities. Guests were treated to a lively performance by Fuji music icon Alhaji (Chief) Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 the Ultimate.

His performance set a celebratory tone, blending joy with remembrance. Also, students from Yewa North Primary School, Ebute Igbooro, performed traditional dances and songs, adding a local touch to the event and showcasing the vibrant culture of the community.

The streets of Ebute-Igbooro were lined with luxury SUVs, a scene that evoked the grandeur of state and national events.

The security of guests was also meticulously handled by gallant operatives, ensuring the smooth running of the event.

The outpouring of love and respect for the late Alhaji Wahab Egungbohun was evident in the large turnout of guests, who came to pay their respects and celebrate his life.

The event not only honoured the deceased, but also strengthened the bonds within the community, as people from all walks of life came together to remember a man who had touched so many.

It would be recalled that Alhaji (Otunba) Wahab Ayinla Egungbohun, who passed away at the age of 74, was buried according to Islamic rites on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Chief Dende Egungbohun’s Compound in Ebute-Igbooro, Yewa North LGA, Ogun State.

He is survived by wives, children, grandchildren, and nephews, including Alhaji (Chief) Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun.

Earlier, on the 8th day Fidau prayer, a heartfelt Islamic prayer session had been held at Egungbohun Copmpound, Ebute Igbooro – the residence of the deceased.

The event marked a gathering of esteemed Imams and Alfas who prayed for the peaceful repose of Alhaji Wahab’s soul, asking Allah to grant him Aljanat Fridaus.

It was a gathering of an intimate moment of reflection, where family, friends, and community members came together to honour the late patriarch’s legacy.

Through this grand burial ceremony, Alhaji Wahab Ayinla Egungbohun’s legacy will be remembered for years to come. His impact on his family, community, and the broader Yewaland will also continue to inspire future generations.

Alhaji (Chief) Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun’s tribute was a fitting farewell to a man whose life embodied respect, leadership, and community spirit.
