LAGOS, NIGERIA – In response to the recent increase in electricity tariffs, a group of Lagos residents took to the streets in protest, expressing their discontent with the new billing structure.
Carrying placards with bold messages such as “We reject outrageous tariffs” and “Issue Prepaid Meters for Free,” the residents voiced their frustration over being classified under Band A, a category that comes with higher electricity rates.
The protestors urged the authorities to move them back to Band B, which offers lower tariffs, arguing that the current rates are unaffordable given the inadequate service delivery they have been experiencing.
Their demands highlight a call for fairness in billing and improved access to prepaid meters, which many believe would help address ongoing issues with inaccurate electricity charges.
