LAGOS, NIGERIA – Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has reminded Christian couples that spiritual responsibilities should not diminish the romantic bond in marriage.
He emphasized that being anointed does not reduce the need for intimacy between a husband and wife.
Speaking about the significance of keeping romance alive, Pastor Adeboye shared personal examples from his marriage, revealing that he and his wife, Foluke, still use pet names in private.
His message, shared on Facebook on September 20, 2024, urged couples, especially those in ministry, to maintain a balance between their spiritual lives and their marriages.
In his post, Pastor Adeboye noted, “The fact that you are a Christian does not in any way take romance out of your marriage. Marriage is the only institution where romance and intimacy are allowed between a man and a woman.”
He expressed concern that some pastors shy away from romantic activities, mistakenly considering them distractions from spiritual work.
Citing the example of Isaac and Rebekah from the Bible, Pastor Adeboye pointed out that Isaac, despite being an anointed man of God, was still affectionate with his wife, as seen in Genesis 26:8.
He encouraged couples not to be rigid in their marriages and to rekindle the spark that initially brought them together
Pastor Adeboye advised couples to revive the affection they had before marriage and children, recalling long conversations and the joy of spending time together.
He also shared practical tips to keep the romance alive, such as composing poems, leaving surprise notes, and using pet names for each other.
Pastor Adeboye concluded by urging couples to stay intentional about nurturing their love, reminding them that “your marriage can be like heaven on earth” if they remain dedicated to being the loving partners they were when they first wed
