Dangote Refinery Refutes NNPCL’s Claim On PMS Pricing

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The management of Dangote Refinery has denied the claim made by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, regarding the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

According to Soneye, Dangote Refinery was allegedly selling its PMS at N898 per litre to NNPCL. The refinery’s management firmly rejected this claim as inaccurate and misleading.

In a statement e-signed by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Dangote Refinery clarified that the attention of the management had been drawn to the misinformation attributed to the NNPCL spokesperson.

Chiejina described the claim as misleading and mischievous, intended to detract from the significant milestone achieved on September 15, 2024, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s energy insufficiency and insecurity that has plagued the economy for over 50 years.

The refinery urged Nigerians to disregard the misleading statement, advising the public to await a formal pricing announcement from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries. The committee, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is set to commence pricing deliberations on October 1, 2024.

Chiejina highlighted that the current crude stock was procured in dollars, thus requiring clarity on pricing mechanisms.

Dangote Refinery also emphasized that it had sold petroleum products to NNPCL in dollars, offering significant savings compared to the corporation’s imports.

This strategic move, they stated, would ensure that petrol reaches every local government area across the country, regardless of remoteness.

The refinery assured Nigerians that it would continue providing quality petroleum products to put an end to the longstanding issue of fuel scarcity.
