ILARO-YEWA, OGUN STATE, NIGERIA – Recreation Club, Ilaro (RCI), a prominent organization in Ogun West, honoured its surviving founding members and induct new members.
The ceremony celebrated the club’s rich history and ongoing success, focusing on Oba Nathaniel Sunday Olawunmi Fasina-Elegbede JP, FCPA, the Onitoro of Itoro-Yewa, and Pa Ishmaeel Abiola ‘Dokun Ojo as the two surviving founding members.
Pa Wole Owoseni, a respected broadcaster and associate journalist, was also honoured with an Award of Excellence for his significant support to the organization.
The evening began with a minute of silence for Alhaji Wasiu Adebiyi, the late Treasurer of the club, and Mrs. Olufunke Salako, wife of Mr. Olufemi Salako, the Chief Whip of the club.
The club’s president, Mr. Kayode Salako, delivered a speech that highlighted the contributions of Oba Fasina and Pa Ojo in shaping the club’s progress.
He also praised Pa Wole Owoseni for his transformative impact on the club, noting that his energy and innovative ideas have revitalized the organization.
Mr. Salako announced the presentation of additional Awards of Excellence to Alhaji Tajudeen Ayinde Salami, the club’s Secretary-General, for his diligent work, and to Elder Oyeniyi Adedayo Ojo for his financial support to the club.
He commended the new members for joining the club despite the current economic challenges, expressing confidence that they would benefit greatly from their membership.
Mr. Salako outlined the achievements of his executive committee, detailing successful events and ongoing projects.
He emphasized the committee’s commitment to advancing the club’s mission and expanding its impact.
Oba Fasina reflected on the club’s history, recalling his role as Barman, Pa Ojo as Secretary, and Pa Owoseni as an associate member.
He praised the current members for continuing the legacy of the founding members and paid tribute to those who have passed away, wishing them eternal peace.
The Onitoro of Itoro-Yewa expressed gratitude for the honours bestowed upon him and others as he showered royal prayers on the entire members of the club and their families.
The new members inducted that evening included Mr. Edun Abiodun Hamid, Mr. Oniyide Obafemi Gbadebo, Mr. Yekini Samusideen Ademola, Mr. Onajobi Johnson, Mr. Oladotun Oludare Ayodele, and Mr. Ladipo Kayode Olawale.
Speaking on behalf of the inductees, Mr. Hamid Edun, thanked the club and assured adherence to its rules and commitment to furthering its goals.
Alhaji Lamidi Elegbede gave the vote of thanks, acknowledging everyone who contributed to the event’s success.
He also used opportunity of the event to highlight the importance of the Solar Light Project, emphasizing its role in improving the club’s infrastructure and encouraging members to support the initiative.
The event was both a celebration of past achievements and a call to action for future endeavors.
Members are optimistic that the club’s legacy, built on the dedication of its members, will continue to thrive.
