LAGOS, NIGERIA – Nigerian music and film icon Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72.
Reports indicated that she died on the night of Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing at the birthday party of Mrs. Stella Okoli.
An eyewitness confirmed the tragic event, stating, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday party earlier today, and after her performance, she slumped.
She was rushed to Reddington Hospital, Lagos, but unfortunately could not be saved.”
As of now, Onwenu’s family has not yet officially announced her death.
The late artiste will be remembered for her influential music albums, including “In The Morning Light” and “Dancing In The Sun”, as well as her roles in films such as “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Lionheart”.
