TUC Stands Firm on N250,000 Minimum Wage Amidst Negotiations

ABUJA, FCT, NIGERIA – Despite ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria maintains its stance that N250,000 should be the minimum wage for workers in the country.

TUC President Festus Osifo reaffirmed this position during a recent gathering in Abuja, emphasizing that discussions with government officials were progressing, albeit with careful consideration.

Osifo highlighted the importance of a swift resolution, recalling the lengthy process that preceded the 2019 minimum wage implementation.

He acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s decision to consult stakeholders before presenting the bill to the National Assembly, underscoring the need for thorough deliberation to ensure the wage adequately supports the most vulnerable.

Despite differing proposals – where the Federal Government and Organised Private Sector suggest N62,000 – Osifo stressed that TUC remains committed to advocating for what it deems a fair and sustainable minimum wage.

He assured stakeholders that TUC’s efforts are aimed at delivering an equitable outcome for workers across Nigeria.
