LAGOS, NIGERIA – Following an incident of discrimination against Mr. Adebola Daniel, son of former Ogun State Governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, at a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet within the Lagos airport, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken decisive action.
Adebola, who has a disability, reported feeling dehumanized during the encounter.
In response, FAAN promptly closed the KFC facility at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), citing violations of laws protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities.
Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed the closure, stating it was in line with Lagos State Law on People with Special Needs, Part C, and Section 55 of General Provisions on Discrimination.
FAAN deployed a management team to investigate the matter, led by Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director, and other officials.
Adebola, in his account of the incident described feeling humiliated and isolated, questioning KFC’s policy of excluding wheelchair users from its premises.
He expressed determination to seek justice and emphasized the importance of treating people with disabilities with dignity and respect.
FAAN’s action underscores its commitment to ensuring the rights of all passengers and sends a strong message against discrimination.
