Tribute:
BY ABU-SATAR HAMED
In the wake of passing of a friend and brother, the former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, I find myself grappling with profound sadness, particularly as I harbored hopes for his recovery from the illness that ultimately claimed his life.
With heavy hearts, I bid farewell to the esteemed Aketi, as he was affectionately known, someone whose influence transcended his distinguished career as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Akeredolu was more than just an accomplished Attorney and Governor; but he embodied integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to his principles.
Throughout his legal career, Aketi remained steadfast in his pursuit of truth and justice, earning admiration from the public.
Akeredolu’s impact also extended beyond the political arena; he enriched his journey with wisdom, camaraderie, and a steadfast dedication to the welfare of the people.
My personal connection with Akeredolu began during my time at Sketch Press Ltd, Ibadan from the 70s, where our paths crossed, and despite my relocation to Lagos in the year 2000, our communication endured.
Akeredolu’s legacy transcends professional accomplishments, reflecting genuine warmth, compassion, and support for all.
In the halls of StarTrend Int’l magazine and online, Akeredolu is remembered not only as a leader, but as a compassionate professional; hence StarTrend Int’l magazine and online gave its relative support during his first and second term governorship campaigns.
Aketi’s multifaceted personality was evident in his ability to navigate diverse social spheres with ease. Whether he was singing in the church choir or entertaining crowds as the World Songito in the Kegites’ shrine, he embraced every moment with zest.
His eclectic taste in music mirrored his diverse persona, reflecting a philosophy centered on advancing collective welfare and spreading joy.
As Akeredolu is laid to rest today – Friday, February 23, 2024, I reflect on his legacy of humility, kindness, and dedicated service.
May he rest in peace, and may his family find solace in cherished memories.
Goodnight, Aketi, sleep well Al-Akeredolu!
