SOKOTO – Expressing deep concern over the widespread suffering, insecurity, and poverty in Nigeria, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III cautioned that the populace could soon reach a breaking point.
Speaking at the 6th executive Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council meeting at Arewa House in Kaduna on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the Sultan highlighted the challenges faced by traditional leaders and religious figures in calming the public, particularly the unemployed youth, to prevent potential uprisings against political leaders.
However, the Sultan emphasized that the situation is reaching a critical juncture where traditional leaders may no longer be able to suppress public discontent.
He remarked, “We have been trying to reassure them that things will improve, but we cannot take their patience for granted forever. People are hungry, angry, and becoming increasingly agitated.”
Acknowledging the escalating poverty and insecurity, the Sultan stressed that these issues demand urgent attention.
He emphasized the need for a comprehensive understanding of the root causes beyond partisan politics to address the nation’s challenges effectively.
The Sultan however urged collective dialogue and action among stakeholders to confront the pressing socio-economic issues confronting the country.
