Protest Erupts Over Economic Hardship: Women Block Major Roads, Demand Improved Living Conditions

MINNA, NIGER STATE – Amidst economic hardship, a group of women took to the streets on Monday, February 5, 2024, blocking the Kpagungu axis of Minna-Bida Road in Niger State’s capital city.

Their protest highlighted issues of hunger and the high cost of living, with placards reading “No food, we are dying of hunger.

The women urged for improved living conditions and a reduction in the cost of living, expressing frustration over the perceived insensitivity of political office-holders to their plight.

The demonstration led to traffic disruptions on the Minna-Bida Road, a crucial link between the North-Central and South-West regions.

The scene became chaotic, with the police resorting to firing teargas canisters to disperse the protesters.
