ABEOKUTA – The Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 engaged with Ogun State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Mustapha Alamutu, demanding justice regarding two distressing incidents: the tragic hit-and-run involving a police officer and Adeleye Eniola, a student of Mayigi Community High School, Ilase, and the fatal robbery of Mr. Taiwo Oyekanmi, Director of Finance and Account in the Governor’s Office.
This assembly emphasized the community’s plea for a meticulous and transparent investigation into these grievous occurrences.
Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusegun, the General Secretary of the forum, highlighted CP Alamutu’s assurance during the meeting, affirming the Police Force’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive inquiry.
“The severity of these incidents is understood, and our primary focus is on a thorough investigation. We are dedicated to seeking justice diligently, ensuring accountability for those responsible,” the Commissioner of Police affirmed.
Adeyemi further conveyed the CP’s statement regarding ongoing collaboration between the State Headquarters, the Area Command, the late schoolgirl’s family, and relevant stakeholders.
The investigation, notably focusing on the accused police officer, is undergoing rigorous scrutiny, with a promise of decisive action following its conclusion.
The youth group stressed the urgency of prompt action and accountability, emphasizing the community’s safety as a paramount concern.
Acknowledging the group’s concerns, the Commissioner of Police affirmed the police department’s unwavering commitment to upholding justice.
Also, the group expressed profound distress over Mr. Oyekanmi’s murder, describing it as an immense burden for the community.
“The State’s top police officer empathized with our loss, assuring us of the case’s high priority in ongoing investigations. He also pledged to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice prevails,” recounted the group.
Moreover, the group voiced concerns about the conduct of Policemen along Owode-Idiroko road.
The Commissioner swiftly addressed this by identifying officers responsible for reported unprofessional conduct, vowing disciplinary measures under his leadership.
Addressing the issue of excessive checkpoints on local roads, the CP acknowledged the challenges posed by Owode-Idiroko’s international status and committed to overseeing corrective actions to curb any misconduct.
As investigations continue, the community awaits updates, anticipating a resolution that brings solace to affected families and restores confidence in Ipokia Local Government. The Commissioner reiterated a commitment to transparency and justice during these trying times.
