… Brymo Calls It An ‘Artistic Pursuit’
The acclaimed hip-hop artiste Adekunle Gold has accused singer Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, better known as Brymo, of making inappropriate remarks about his wife, Simisola Kosoko, affectionately known as Simi.
Allegedly, Brymo threatened to engage in a sexual encounter with Simi before agreeing to collaborate on a song with her.
According to Adekunle Gold, he approached Brymo with a song that his wife had written, believing it would be a perfect collaboration.
He sent Brymo Simi’s verse, only to receive a shocking response. Brymo purportedly expressed interest in the verse, but insisted on having a sexual encounter with Adekunle Gold’s wife first, which Adekunle found deeply disrespectful.
When Adekunle confronted Brymo about whether this was how they exploited young female talents, Brymo’s response was dismissive, simply saying “Bye.”
Adekunle Gold also shared that he and his wife had abstained from sexual activity before marriage, dating for over eight years with this commitment.
To him, Brymo’s disrespect towards his wife was particularly hurtful. Despite this, Simi went ahead and recorded the song, and it turned out to be a hit.
In a subsequent development, Brymo clarified his previous comments regarding a request for a sexual relationship with fellow artiste Simi in exchange for a music collaboration.
Brymo who now describes this request as part of his “artistic pursuit”, had initially sparked controversy when he revealed in a voice note posted on social media that he had asked for a sexual relationship with Simi as a condition for a music collaboration.
This led to a response from Simi’s husband, singer Adekunle Gold, who warned Brymo to “stay away” from his wife and “stop disrespecting” his family.
In a recent interview with TVC, Brymo defended his previous comments, stating, “One day I was somewhere and I met Adekunle Gold, I was just like, ‘Oh! Gold’ The first time I was ever meeting him. And he requested collaboration… When he came to me, I just said flatly, ‘Oga, I’m not doing any collaboration right now.’
“Two weeks after, Simi came. I didn’t know they (Simi and Adekunle Gold) were together. I’m sure you all know about Falz. He took the fall that I was supposed to take. I was the target… But I’m a smart guy.
“When I saw her (Simi), I said no features except I am laying with the woman I am working with so it can really be intense. Did she not sleep with Adekunle Gold? Is that not why the music is extra good? But she said no, and I was like okay, bye-bye and then she left.
“She wasn’t the only one I proposed it to. But guess what? I’ve made music with seven women. I didn’t sleep with anyone of them. After that incident, I’ve recorded songs with four women. We didn’t even have that (sexual) conversation at all. We just made music. So, it wasn’t about me asking for sex for collaboration. No, no, it wasn’t about that. For me, it was an artistic pursuit.”
Brymo’s comments now suggest that he was exploring the idea of intense creative collaboration with Simi but clarifies that the request for a sexual relationship wasn’t the sole motivation for his artistic decisions.
