ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State traditional healers have been advised to embrace modern medical practices in alignment with government directives and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) policies.

During the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed executive members of the Ogun State Traditional Healers Association, Hon. Waliu Taiwo, Chairman of the Ogun State House of Assembly Service Commission, delivered this important message.
The event took place at the State College of Nursing and Sciences Hall, Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
Hon. Taiwo emphasized the need for practitioners in this field to align with all the healthcare policies established by the Ogun State vernment.
He stressed that embracing modern practices would not only enhance their profession but also contribute to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services to the citizens of the state.
Hon. Taiwo emphasized that scientific medicine practitioners alone cannot fulfill the healthcare needs of the population, underscoring the significance of alternative interventions.
Dr. Kafayat Lawal, the Executive Secretary of the Alternate Medicine Board, who also serves as the Registrar of the Board, represented by Mrs. Ola Sobande, commended the Traditional Healers Association for their exemplary conduct since its inception.
She urged the newly appointed executives to carry forward the legacy of their predecessors by promoting the best practices in their field.
Dr. Lawal assured them of unwavering government support as long as they abide by the established rules and regulations governing their practice.
She also expressed the government’s commitment to elevating the practice of traditional medicine to world-class standards in the near future.
Chief Olaseni Adeokun, the Oba Isegun General for Remo, conveyed his appreciation for the role played by Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye, the leader of OGAMB, in stabilizing the Traditional Healers Association within the state.
In response to the honour bestowed upon him and his fellow executives, the new President of the Ogun State Traditional Healers Association, High Chief Ademola Akanbi, pledged not to tolerate any form of ethnicity or tribalism within the association.
He expressed gratitude to the members for their trust and assured them of his commitment to lead the association to greater heights.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chief Oyenuga Emmanuel, Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Ogun State Traditional Healers Association, expressed appreciation for the current administration’s support of the board.
He extended his gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his dedication to reviving Ogun State’s traditional medicine practices, which have been documented as an agency since the promulgation of State Edict in 1990.
The event underscored the importance of integrating modern medical practices with traditional medicine in Ogun State to improve healthcare services.
It also emphasized collaboration and adherence to regulations while recognizing the valuable contributions of traditional healers to the overall well-being of the community.
