Oyo State’s New Model Smart School Commences Operations As UBEC Hands Over Facility

IBADAN – Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced the imminent start of operations at the newly constructed Model Smart School in Sogunro, Akinyele, Ibadan.

This development was disclosed during the official handover of the facility by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board.

Mr. Jacob Dairo, the Executive Secretary of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, praised UBEC for its commitment to technical and digital education in the state.

He emphasized the Oyo State Government’s dedication to equipping the younger generation with the essential skills needed to compete globally and stressed the vital role of education in national development.

The Model Smart School in Sogunro, Akinyele Local Government, was jointly constructed by the federal government through UBEC and the Oyo State Government.

Mr. Dairo, who was recently appointed as the Executive Secretary by Governor Seyi Makinde, highlighted the school’s focus on digital and technical education to foster socioeconomic development among the youth and enhance their competitiveness.

Full academic activities at the school are set to commence in September, catering to pre-basic classes, special education, Basic 1-3, and Junior Secondary School 1-2 pupils.

Mr. Dairo expressed confidence that the school would significantly improve teaching and learning quality through the integration of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

He commended UBEC for its support in advancing basic education in the state and its efforts to eradicate the out-of-school phenomenon.

Also, he appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to enhancing the quality of basic education in Oyo State.

Mrs. Sherifat Lawal, a representative of UBEC, reiterated the federal government’s dedication to basic education in Oyo State and the Commission’s objectives of supporting smart school projects and improving access to quality teaching and learning materials for teachers and students.

UBEC’s Zonal consultant, Arc. Sanya Akindele, highlighted the school’s facilities, including classrooms for pupils with special needs, pre-basic, primary, and JSS classes.

The school is equipped with a robotic laboratory, vocational laboratories, a clinic, ICT room, and an e-library.

Akindele praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to the project, emphasizing that it opens up opportunities for e-learning and early computer exposure for students.

Mr. Jimoh Wasiu, Chairman of the Sogunro community, commended Governor Seyi Makinde and OYOSUBEB, recognizing the project’s positive impact on community development.

Recently, Mrs. Olaide Ladipo, the Desk Officer for Oyo State Smart School, led a monitoring team that assessed the facilities at the Model Smart School.

She also announced the commencement of online registration for admission through www.oyostatesmartschool.com, with the entrance examination scheduled for Monday, September 11, 2023.
