3ILARO-YEWA – Acquisition of skills is a vital aspect of personal and societal development, particularly for young people who are the future of any nation.

This was the submission of Mr. Deola Adeyemi, the Training Coordinator, Recreation Innovation Hub, Ilaro-Yewa at the closing ceremony and presentation of certificates to the participants on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Recreation Club, Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.

Mr. Adeyemi was quite optimistic about the impact of the two weeks programme, stressing, “In today’s world, practical skills are basically much more important than certificates. It’s all about what you can do. Hence, we are determined to put Ilaro on the global skills map”.

The programme was structured to be very practical, and the participants were given hands-on training in their areas of interest.

The success of any society is dependent on the ability of its youth to contribute positively to the growth and development of the nation.

The closing ceremony of Ilaro Skills Acquisition Programme was held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. The acquisition programme, organized by the Recreation Innovation Hub Ilaro, equipped 60 youths and students with necessary in-demand skills.

The training, conducted over a period of two weeks (April 11 – 24, 2023) featured six different classes: Computer Appreciation, Coding, Graphics, Web and Digital Marketing, Makeup Artistry and Catering.

According to Adeyemi, the skill acquisition programme was designed to teach the participants new skills that could enable them to become entrepreneurs or secure gainful employment.

“The programme’s organizers recognized that one of the major barriers to young people’s success is a lack of access to opportunities and resources, such as finance and mentorship.

“Therefore, they also included sessions on Entrepreneurship where experienced entrepreneurs were invited to share their success stories and provide guidance on how to navigate the challenges of starting and running a successful business”, Adeyemi stated.

“The closing ceremony featured presentation of Certificates to participants. Additionally, the programme organizers also created a support system for the participants, which includes regular follow-ups and mentorship to ensure that they are making progress.

“The impact of the skill acquisition programme was immediate and visible.

“Many of the participants reported feeling more confident about their future prospects and were eager to put their new skills to use.

“In conclusion, the skill acquisition programme was a significant success, and it is an excellent example of how organizations can contribute to the development of the society by empowering and equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed.

“With more initiatives like this in Ilaro, one can anticipate a generation of young people who are not only self-reliant but also actively contributing to the growth and development of their communities”, Adeyemi posited.
