He said, “The present situation of Model Colleges is a sad reality. It only makes sense to continue viable projects irrespective of sentiments.
“Unlike what is presently obtainable in Ogun State, wherein the new government comes in and stops vital projects that were started by past administration.
“This lack of continuity isn’t peculiar to the education sector alone; the same can be seen in other sectors like aviation and health”.
Otegbeye also said, “Everything of value beginning from the tenure of Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun will be improved upon.
“Though we are presently contesting fiercely, we won’t deny the good people of Ogun State of continuing any worthy project started by this administration.”
The ADC governorship candidate while narrating his childhood experience with his parents, both of whom were teachers, assured the Union members that he had been groomed to provide good and compassionate leadership because he understands the plights of civil and public servants in Ogun State.
He stated, “I remember helping my parents to mark their scripts while growing up, and they were always meticulous. No mark went unrecorded for deserving students.
“It was a privilege for me not just to have experienced the rare opportunity, but also to have lived and felt the experience.
“As the CEO of my company, the Regency Alliance, my mother who was collecting thirteen thousand naira refused to let go of her retirement benefit, even after I promised to double what she was earning.
“She told me in clear terms that she wouldn’t let go of her sweat and labour, and that there was dignity in labour”.
Otegbeye, a lawyer, went further to highlight his plans for Ogun State and his intention to fix the problems and rots of Ogun State and create opportunities for all citizens.
According to him, ”my plans include Accelerated Economic Growth; Optimised Public Services, Good Governance and Leadership; Liveable Communities and Creation of New Terms; Impactful Social Services and Development of People-Focused Infrastructure”.
The Insurance Executive premised his manifesto on the dire need to create a sustainable environment for everyone.
BOT as he’s fondly called by his teeming supporters declared that he won’t place extra burdens on the good people of Ogun State in order to increase revenue for the state.
He commended the level of ingenuity and professionalism displayed by the civil servants in the discharge of their duties while enduring the torture and pains from the present government led by Dapo Abiodun.
On revenue generation, the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Alhaji Tunde Awonuga, a big player in the maritime sector said that a blueprint was already on ground to address all necessary sectors: agriculture, health, aviation and water.
Awonuga said, “Ogun Waterside is presently positioned to have the largest seaport in Africa, for the benefit of our people.
“Ogun State is one of the largest revenue generators in Nigeria, but unfortunately, Lagos State is enjoying all the goodies.
“If we can sustain a private sector for over 30 years in Nigeria, we can run a nation. We have major plans for Ogun State in both the health and agriculture sectors.
“We intend to partner with investors with our blueprint which will help create a sustainable investment atmosphere and structures.”
The Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress Ogun State Chairmen, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole and Comrade Akeem Lasisi respectively appreciated Otegbeye for honouring their Townhall invitation.
They expressed their confidence in his plans for new Ogun State and a clear readiness to fulfil his promises if elected Governor of Ogun State.
The Unions thanked Otegbeye for turning up for the interaction and also expressed their disappointments in other Gubernatorial Candidates of other parties who failed to honour the invitation for the Town Hall Meeting
Comrade Emmanuel Bankole, in his vote of thanks said, “What we are doing is to provide a platform for the people of Ogun State, so that decisions and actions won’t be taken based on sentiments, but from an informed point of view.
“The people of Ogun State have suffered and endured a lot, and as such, NLC and TUC will be more proactive in their political involvement in this election.
“We invited all candidates for this election, and we jointly said that no candidate will be compelled, but appropriate actions will be taken when the time comes.
“We have heard what exactly you have for the good people of Ogun State, and we will evaluate your manifesto. This isn’t for Labour alone but for everyone. Narration must change and it has to change collectively.”
