Wike Hits Back At Ayu, Says, “Iyorchia’s Sole Interest In PDP Is Party’s N14bn Raised During Primaries”

Iyorchia’s Ayu, PDP National Chairman

PORT-HARCOURT – Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has lambasted the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu.

Wike who on Thursday, September 1, 2022 hits hard on the PDP National Chairman said “Ayu was only interested in the N14 billion the party raised during primaries.”

The Rivers State helmsman said it was Ayu’s desire to manage the funds, saying that “Ayu has demonstrated the highest level of ingratitude and arrogance for describing him and members of his team as children after he assisted in attaining his present position.”

Wike who stated this at the commissioning of Omerelu Internal roads in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, said those Ayu was referring to as children would teach him a lesson.

His words, “These children you said we are, brought you from nothing. Now we have seen that you don’t want the party to win the election, we will help you.

“Ayu, you said you founded this party, but you left the party in 2007. You founded a company, you left the company, people stood and brought out the company to what it is today, you have no moral right to still come and claim that you founded that company, you left with your shares.

“Nigerians have seen how ungrateful some of you can be, and that’s why Nigerians also want to be careful, if we give these people power, are you sure they will also be grateful to Nigerians?”

.
In his own speech at the event, a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP and former Deputy National Chairman of the Party, Chief Bode George, said “Ayu’s utterances portray him as immature.

“When a serving National Chairman of our party is calling elected Governors that they are children,…does he think that children don’t grow? Or is there a life perpetual on him?

“We need to watch our language. It shows to me that it is him who is immature”.

It would be recalled that Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of PDP ssid all those calling for his resignation are children that were not around when the party was formed.

The camp of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has given Ayu’s resignation as one of the conditions that has to be fulfilled to resolve the post-presidential primaries crisis rocking the opposition party.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar had defeated Wike in the presidential primaries of the party. Although Atiku was asked to consider Wike as running mate, but settled for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, to the dismay of the Rivers governor and his supporters.

Wike’s supporters have argued that it is unfair for the party’s chairman and its presidential flagbearer to hail from the same region.

But speaking recently in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, Ayu said those calling for his resignation were nowhere to be found when they struggled to form the party.

Ayu added that he was not bothered by the call for his resignation.

His words, “I was voted as PDP Chairman for a four-year tenure and I’m yet to complete a year. Atiku’s victory doesn’t affect the Chairman’s position. I won my election based on our party’s constitution.

“I didn’t commit any offense, I’m only reforming the party so I’m not bothered with all the noises. I know I’m doing my work and I didn’t steal any money so I see no reason for all these talks.

“When we started PDP, these children were not around. They are children who do not know why we formed the party. We will not allow any individual to destabilize our party.”
