ABUJA/LAGOS – The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has condemned the recent shooting in a Clubhouse in Lagos by a Police escort detailed to the Nigerian music star, Damini Ogulu, fondly called Burna Boy.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP Baba described in strongest terms the act as barbaric and directed the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, “to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgent as possible for further action.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba condemned the shooting in the strongest terms.
“The IGP has directed Lagos Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter and forward his report as urgent as possible for further action.
“The personnel are in custody and being investigated for their involvement in the incident.”
It was scooped that trouble started shortly after the singer stormed Cubana Club, Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 with five police escorts.
Four of the police escorts, it was gathered, waited outside while one, identified as Inspector Ibrahim who was on mufti accompanied the musician into the club.
Burna Boy, according to sources, was in the VIP section of the club with three women when he allegedly spotted another woman and asked the police escort to invite her to his table.
The lady’s husband, it was learnt, got furious over Burna Boy’s advances at his wife, but the singer it was alleged made fresh moves.
However, the issue went out of hand as the police escorts allegedly started to shoot at the clubgoers.
The police escorts have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Commissioner’s Special Squad for attempted murder while the police have commenced a probe of Burna Boy over the shooting.
It would be recalled that a similar incident happened at a clubhouse around Mosalasi Bus Stop, near Alagutan area, along Ipaja Road, Lagos.
Some observers of the scene, interviewed by StarTrend Int’l magazine on the recent development in the society and wish to remain anonymous, condemned in strong terms how some influential Nigerians now use Nigerian security agents to “killed and maimed fellow Nigerians in the name of protecting themselves.”
They also lamented on how these “dignitaries send our Police officers ridicule errands, saying the IGP Baba should quickly nip in the bud this crazy and heartless way of killing Nigerians by those expected to protect the life and property of all Nigerians, irrespective of their status in the society.”
