OGUN BEGINS SECOND PHASE OF COVID-19 VACCINATION

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun Staste Government has restated its commitment to combating the COVID-19 Pandemic as it announces the commencement of the second phase of the vaccination exercise across the State.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker who made this known during a press briefing in Abeokuta stated that the State had received a total of 87,416 doses of Morderna Vaccine, adding that adequate measures, such as provision of an ultra-modern cold chain refrigerator had been put in place to ensure quality and potency of the vaccine.

Dr. Coker said that the Morderna Vaccine would be administered in two doses at an interval of three to four weeks, noting that this second phase would involve residents who are 18 years and above in all Local Government Areas across the State

She explained that about 131 vaccination sites had been set up with a total of 105 fixed Sites, which include Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, all State General Hospitals and Primary Health Facilities across the State, adding that 26 mobile sites, such as market places, motor parks and religious centers had been included to allow residents have easy access to vaccination while doing their daily business activities.

Enjoining eligible residents to avail themselves of the opportunity and be vaccinated, Dr. Coker added that the exercise would run for 21 days beginning from Monday, August 23 to Saturday, September 11, 2021 in facilities across the State, reiterating that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led-administration remained committed to ensuring that residents have access to efficient and qualitative healthcare services.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board (OGPHCDB), Dr. Elijah Ogunsola assured that the vaccine is safe, potent and effective, advising residents to continue the non-pharmaceutical preventive measures by observing social distancing, use of face masks, hand washing and use of hand sanitiser.
