SAGAMU – Towards building a conflict-free society, Nigerian youths have been charged to uphold high moral standard, shun destructive and flamboyant lifestyles, as well as other youthful exuberances.
According to a release e-signed and made available to StarTrend Int’l & online – www.startrendinternational.com by Iyabo Araba, ZIO, Sagamu LG, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi made this call in Sagamu at the maiden edition of a Teens Summit with the theme: “Teenagers, Health and Sex Education”, organised by the Sagamu Youth Association in collaboration with a Non-Governmental Organisation.
Oba Ajayi represented by the Director of Treasury, Sagamu Youth Association, Comrade Olumide Oluwasogo, said youths have the ability to make positive impact for a desired change in the society, calling on them to face all challenges and utilise their unique talents for a better future.
In his welcome address, the President, Sagamu Youth Association, Comrade Sikiru Olusegun urged members of the community to correct and guide youths particularly teenagers, towards building a better society.
Comrade Olusegun commended the present administration in the State for its support in making the summit a reality and laud the NGO for putting up the programme towards repositioning the lives of the younger generation.
In her goodwill message, the Zonal Education Officer, Miss Odulesi Abosede said it was high time to invest more in adolescent, for them to surmount the enormous challenges facing them.
In his lecture, a Consultant in Public Health Physician, Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, Dr. Olumide Adejumo, highlighted lack of experience, poor socio-economic status, unemployment, among others as risk factors of drug abuse which are dangerous to human health, urging them to always seek advice from their parents and elderly people.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Mrs. Damilola Awobajo advised youths to identify themselves as genuine and unique creatures to attain a greater-heights, saying “You should always be at the right place, at the right time doing the right thing”.
Speaking on behalf of other participants, Victoria Unuo from Remo Secondary School and Oluwaseyifunmi Odulate from Makun High School, Sagamu said they have learnt a lot from the summit, promised to put the knowledge gained into practice.
