IBADAN – The Ekeefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi’s 70th birthday anniversary earlier slated for October 27, 2020, has been rescheduled to December 7, 2020 in honor of victims of #EndSARS protesters who lost their lives during the struggle.
The long-planned celebration was suspended by the family, out of sympathy with the families and comrades of the youths killed/injured during the bloody, recent #EndSARS protests all over the country.
According to the chairman, Lekan Alabi 70th Birthday Planing Committee, Prof. Remi Raji at a press conference held on Monday, November 9, 2020 at NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku Ibadan noted that the activities slated for the new date include the presentation of a play derived from the life story of the Oloye Alabi to re-create the glorious days of the old Western Region in the young nation, Nigeria as merit-driven society.
“The theme of the play reflects the title of this Press Conference, is “Give me the Old Nigeria – Western Region on my Mind.
His words, “Highlights of the celebration also include celebrations of the golden era of the Western Region of Nigeria, with poetry/drama, book, dress & food exhibitions and dance.”
Prof. Raji however thanked the planing committee members, together with well-wishers which include President Muhammadu Buhari, former Governor Omololu Olunloyo, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, and the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Oyo State Council among others.
Meanwhile, the chairman of NUJ, Oyo State Council, Com. Ademola Babalola has congratulated the Ibadan Chief, saying that he has impacted a lot on many Nigerians, pledging the support of the union towards the success of the birthday celebration.
