AYETORO-YEWA – Rotary International moves to complement Ogun State Government in reducing maternal and child mortality rates as it has organised a lecture and advocacy programme for stakeholders in child and maternity care across the State.
According to a release e-signed and made available to StarTrend Int’l & online – www.startrendinternational.com by Lateef Akintunde, ZIO, Ayetoro-Yewa, speaking during the lecture held at Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government, the Coordinator, Dr Hassan Adelakun, said that the active involvement of concerned stakeholders would help the State in achieving its goals of reducing maternal and child mortality rates to the barest minimum.
Adelakun identified ignorance on maternity care, family planning, child spacing as factors affecting both mothers and children.
“There had been family planning services free of charge in our public centres. We are hoping that because of the position you hold in the society, you will help us to amplify our voices so that our people would be better informed”, the coordinator stated.
In his presentation, the Head of General Hospital, Ayetoro, Dr Olawale Maku, expatiated on the myths and misconceptions on family planning, encouraging participants to spread the crusade of the benefits among their members for it to be widely embraced.
Dr Maku applauded the present government being led by Governor Dapo Abiodun for procurement of equipment and renovation of some the government health facilities, appealing for recruitment of more personnel in the sector.
Two of the participants, Chief Imam of Ayetoro, Alhaji Ganiyu Ajakore and the Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),Ayetoro, Pastor Samuel Ayanyemi, said the lecture was an eye opener on issue surrounding maternal and child mortality, calling on other participants to spread the knowledge gained.
They appealed for sustained sensitisation of people so as to promote the well being of the family and improvement in the socio-economic development of the State.
Other participants present were representatives of transport unions, commercial motorcycle riders, primary healthcare officials, Iyaloja, traditional birth attendants, among others.
