Ogun Youths Debunk DSS’s Allegation, Says, “We Are Not Criminals”

ABEOKUTA – A youth organisation in Ogun state – Ogun West Rescue Team has debunked allegation by the Department of State Service (DSS), Ogun State branch that youths in Ogun West Senatorial District were planning to pose threat to the security of the state.

The DSS had on October 15th, 2020 issued a release, alleging the youths of the senatorial district of plans to create security threat within the state.

The organisation, in a rejoinder signed its Publicity Secretary; Comrade Adegbite Wasiu described the allegation as a threat and a way to sabotage its constitutional right to life, peaceful assembly and demonstration.

The statement read in parts, “We would like to state here that Ogun West district has been suffering from lingering marginalization in terms of socio- economic developments over the years and the current upsurge of illegal killings of armless civilians by members of the Nigerian Customs Service across the nooks and crannies of Ogun West region has become a security concern to us.

“It’s important to state that some of our elected representatives in the State and National Assembly have done their possible best in ending this injustice being melted on our people, but all yield no result.”

In the statement, the youth organization also accused the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun of turning a deaf ear to their agitations.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun has been turning a deaf ear to all our agitations, as a result of his nonchalant attitude over it. We have been left in disarray since the inception of the state in 1976 and our hope has been jeopardized.

“As a progressive minded youth organization, with core mission of rescuing the region from all these political maltreatments, killings, herdsmen attacks and lingering marginalization, we have resolved to channel our demands with intellectual mannerism in line with international principles of struggle and agitation which we see as the only and better alternative in democratic setting.

“The Ogun West Rescue Team is purely a progressive minded group of the concern citizens within the region with a core mission of taking this region to a promising destination it deserves without any affiliation to smuggler or any political party.

“Our proposed summit which will be a channel to address all the challenges so far is coming up on Saturday, 31st October, 2020 at Ilaro Yewa South Local Government, Ogun State.”

They however called on all the concerned personalities, stakeholders and Organizations to extend their hands of support in making their mission a reality.
