The Honourable Representing Ogbomoso North state constituency, Olawunmi Oladeji has stated that educational development is key to Nation building.
Honourable Oladeji who is equally the only female lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly said despite the COVID-19 pandemic which kept pupils and students home for over 6 months, pupils can still recover the time back if they have an enabling environment, adequate teachers, and working materials.
The lawmaker stated this while distributing educational palatives to over 20,000 students in Ogbomoso North State Constituency on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, and pupils from schools within the state constituency jubilating while they recieved Note books, Higher Education, writing pens and chalks.
She said it is important to protect the rights of children which is what she is doing, recalling that her passion for children and as Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs gave her the opportunity to reach out to more children.
Hon. Oladeji advised the leadership of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to ensure that efforts must be put in place to withdraw children from the street back to school in a strategic manner that will help the state to overcome the challenges of out of school children.
The former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala while doing the symbolic distribution told students and teachers that what the lawmaker is doing is in fulfillment of her campaign promises to the people.
He said politicians must always return to the grassroot to support the people, stating that the educational materials will encourage the student to attend school and be more focused.
Otunba Alao-Akala advised Hon. Oladeji to do more, while urging other lawmakers to emulate an outstanding politician touching the lives of people in her constituency.
After the educational empowerment, the leadership of NUT thanked Hon. Oladeji for the donation of over 5million naira worth of educational materials to assist the schools.
Hon. Oladeji also visited Nigeria Training Centre for the Blind and Kersey Children Home, owned by Bowen University Hospital, and she donated bags of rice, cartoon of noddles and washing soap, bags of diapers, bags of semovita among others.
She however emphasised the need to run an inclusive government, thereby supporting persons living with disabilities.
The lawmaker promised to regularly support people with disabilities and encouraged them to continue to improve in their various skill aquisition.
The Principal of Nigeria Training Centre for the Blind, Mrs. Akanbi Oluwaseun commended the kind gesture of the lawmaker, stating that the food and cash support will go a long way to assist the centre at this critical times.
