LAGOS – Kunle Lawal, fondly called Kunle Poly, a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State is serving a suspension handed down by State Charman Musiliu Akinsanya also known as MC Oluomo.
It will be recalled that Kunle Poly was the main challenger in the fierce contest that almost scuttled MC Oluomo’s lifelong ambition of becoming the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW.
However, in the bid to protect his means of livelihood, having lost out in the make or mar fight for the number one seat, Kunle Poly later begged Oluomo for forgiveness.
It was scooped that “Kunle Poly put shame aside to begged Oluomo to let bygone be bygone.”
Oluomo reportedly agreed and retained Kunle Poly as a Branch Chairman of the Union in Lagos island, but split his domain into three.
Sources disclosed that the other parts were given to loyalists of Oluomo in the fight for the NURTW top spot.
It was also learnt that Oluomo warned Kunle Poly and the new chairmen that he (Oluomo) would suspend all of them if any form of violence was recorded in their domain and that was what happened.
An impeccable source disclosed that Kunle Poly and the new chairmen went to war over earnings from a place known as Eyin Eyo (behind the Eyo Masquerade statue) in Idumota, Lagos.
Observers of the scene said, ‘’The place is like a no man’s land, but a good source of revenue. It was agreed that they would take turns to take the proceeds from the week, but one of them refused to leave when his time was up and violence broke out over an attempt to forcefully make them go’’.
However, Oluomo reportedly lived up to his threats by suspending all the chairmen and has refused entreaties from them to be re-instated.
Oluomo’s men have been in charge of the branches as ‘’caretakers’’ for weeks, and this development is said to have hit Kunle Poly very hard, especially economically.
