… Calls Africans To Embrace Traditional Spirituality
IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA – Popular Nigerian music star, Alexander Adegbola Akande, widely known as 9ice, has revealed he endured a terrifying spiritual battle that nearly claimed his life.
During a recent appearance on The Nancy Isime Show, shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, August 3, 2025, the Gongo Aso crooner recounted how he once vomited blood continuously for six months as a result of a spiritual attack.
9ice explained that the bizarre health crisis began in 2009/2010, when he started vomiting blood inside his home.
According to him, the condition defied all medical explanation, prompting him to leave his residence.
“When I was vomiting blood for about six months in my own house, I had to leave my house”, he said. “It wasn’t a medical condition.”
The singer said that his healing only began after he was referred to an Ifa priest, marking the start of his journey into African traditional spirituality.
“The first time I experienced Ifa was when I was vomiting blood. Someone referred me to Ifa. I just wished that I had known Ifa at the beginning”, he noted.
When asked by host Nancy Isime how he now protects himself from spiritual attacks, 9ice made a candid declaration about his spiritual identity.
“I’m not a Christian or a Muslim. I’m a Babalawo. I’m an African. I’m a traditionalist,” he stated firmly.
He drew parallels with the late music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, saying: “Fela used to go to Ogun and people were mocking him, but now, I understand.”
9ice ended his revelation with a message for fellow Africans, urging them to reconnect with their spiritual heritage.
He affirmed that he now fully embraces Ifa and African spirituality, stressing that it offers strength and protection often overlooked by modern belie
f systems.
